Sell me this pen!

Ever had an accidental job interview?

I did. Last Tuesday.

Picture this…

I walk into this fancy office building...

Glass everywhere, plants that cost more than my first laptop,

And receptionists who look like they moonlight as models.

I was lost…

Looking for a different company entirely.

But somehow I end up sitting across from a CEO in a suit that probably cost more than my car.

He leans forward, million-dollar smile on his face.

“Jonathan!”...

“Sell me this pen!”

But wait…

I’m not Jonathan.

The only Jonathan I knew was from the checkout at my local supermarket.

But when opportunity hands you a pen... you better be ready.

I smiled, reached out, and shook his hand.

"Thank you," I said…

"Please take mine instead."

I handed him my pen, then walked out.

10 minutes later…

The real Jonathan enters the room.

CEO hands him my pen.

Same question.

"Sell me this pen."

Jonathan looks at it, and without missing a beat says…

"It sells a dream, a vision... your vision."

(Gotta admit, Jonathan's good.)

A week later, I'm back in that office.

This time, intentionally.

The CEO grins when he sees me.

“Callan!”

“Let me tell you about my vision…”

Sometimes the best marketing isn't marketing at all.

It's being prepared when opportunity comes knocking.

Or in my case, when you accidentally walk through its door.

To dreams and wrong turns,
